At the end of May and beginning of June, we celebrated Book Day in Nursery & Kindergarten.
The English teaching team organised some artistic interventions, with the presence of Mrs. Rockets Pockets. They spread magic and joy to all the groups. Mrs. Rockets brought surprises in her wide skirt full of colourful pockets. Inside them, there were different elements that introduced stories, fingerplays and songs.
These magic moments, planned by the teachers and the English coordinator, were designed to highlight the value of stories ―told, read or sung― and to promote their enjoyment. Through these tales (*), different strategies were encouraged: the acquisition of the second language, the development of imagination and understanding of the world. They offered children the opportunity to expand vocabulary, improve listening comprehension and begin to develop reading and writing skills.
These activities also helped foster connections between teachers and children of different grade levels.
With music (songs and instruments), puppets, fingerplays and dramatisations, the main characters of the stories chosen by the teachers jumped out of the pages of the books and captivated each audience.
It was a very meaningful experience for everyone!
