These days at Instituto Crandon, we have been joyfully celebrating National Book Day. In 1.º EMS, the English Section teachers focused on developing students’ oral and written production while fostering critical and creative thinking. With this goal in mind, we created an artistic space in our classrooms where students could design and produce their own Twelfth Night front covers.
To begin with, students reflected on the enduring relevance of William Shakespeare as a remarkable author. They explored the play’s main themes, setting, and characters, along with other key elements to consider before getting hands-on with the project. Following this period of reflection and discussion, students enthusiastically began working together, organizing themselves into groups and selecting a variety of materials to carry out the task.
In the end, a warm and relaxed atmosphere could clearly be felt. Students enjoyed a meaningful moment in which they internalized concepts, had fun, and even connected personally with the characters’ emotions. To conclude, a final reflection emerged: students highlighted how Shakespeare’s themes remain deeply relevant, and how anyone can still relate to those feelings today.
Twelfth Night, or What You Will is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1601–1602.
