From May to November, Early Childhood education groups are embarking on «Play & Learn», a collaborative project under the Learning in Action framework. This initiative invites teachers to exchange successful play-based activities, creating a dynamic environment where children and educators learn together through meaningful experiences.

The «Play & Learn» project, designed by Ms. Gimena Alzugaray May (English Coordinator) involves all Early Childhood classes, from Levels 1 to 5. During the initial months, priority is given to Levels 3 through 5 to allow the youngest students time to settle into the school environment.

A key feature of this project is its flexibility: teachers may choose how to present their activities, whether involving a single group or an entire grade level. Furthermore, the project encourages professional synergy, as proposals can be led by a single teacher or co-planned and co-led by colleagues working in partnership.

Sharing Best Practices and Pedagogical Resources

Teachers are encouraged to share a play-based learning activity that has proven particularly successful in their own classrooms. These activities, which can be proposed by either the educators or the children themselves, primarily take place in the multipurpose classroom, but may also be carried out in other areas of the institution, such as the playground and other shared spaces. 

To ensure that these innovative ideas remain a permanent resource for the institution, participating teachers prepare a comprehensive lesson plan. This documentation includes objectives, timing and a description of the activity’s execution, and ongoing records. 

The project is rooted in specific educational goals that support the daily work of our institution: language acquisition, exploration (encouraging curiosity, creativity, and sensory-based learning), social interaction, and professional growth.

A Community of Recognition

One of the most unique aspects of «Play & Learn» is how participation is celebrated. At the end of their involvement, each teacher receives a gift from their fellow participants. To emphasize the value of personal talent and community, these gifts are not purchased; instead, they consist of handmade items or the sharing of a specific skill or service, such as a coaching session or an invitation to a special event.

By placing play and movement at the center of the curriculum, «Play & Learn» reaffirms our commitment to an education that is both joyful and rigorous. This project does more than teach English; it builds a community of educators who are willing to share their best work to ensure that every child’s learning journey is filled with wonder and discovery.
