Secundaria

November 7nd, 2024

The Secondary English Coordination organised the second cycle of online round tables with Crandon alumni (Seniors) who live or have lived abroad. The event, entitled The adventure of a lifetime, took place in two sessions ―on Thursday 17 and Tuesday 22― for students in the second and third year of Bachillerato Diversificado.

The meetings were conducted in English and began with the introduction and summary of each guest’s individual CV. In concise and entertaining speeches, they explained what it was like to live and study abroad as an undergraduate or postgraduate student. They mentioned, for example, the difficulties and hardships involved in applying for scholarships.

They have always emphasised the level of English they have learnt at Crandon, which has enabled them to communicate with people from all over the world, attend courses, get jobs and scholarships.

They also explained the difficulties: how to get work visas, missing family and friends (including culture, food and even smells), the time difference in some parts of the world and the cost of accommodation in certain cities.

They made it clear that living abroad is an opportunity to show and appreciate Uruguayan culture, to prove to oneself that it is possible to live independently and to solve small and big problems. They also emphasised the importance of making the most of the opportunities that arise (whether it be for a semester, a year or more), overcoming shyness and trusting in the level of English achieved at Crandon and the good level of education in Uruguay.

The two roundtables ended with applause from all groups and general enthusiasm.
