Students from the 3rd to 6th grade EBI (Educación Básica Integrada, Primaria) groups recently attended a special performance of the educational play Zorro III The Last Dance by The Company at the Teatro del Notariado. The performances, which took place on August 4th,  5th, 7th and 8th were a vibrant dramatized version of the classic story, designed to engage young audiences.

Authored by Juan Luis Granato, the play is complemented by educational materials and teacher’s notes developed by José Luis Morales. The production focuses on fundamental concepts and values such as fairness, honesty, and asserting one’s rights.

The play’s plot follows the legendary Diego de la Vega, who returns to Los Angeles as Zorro after his father, Don Antonio de la Vega, is murdered by the corrupt Captain Ramón Mejías. Ramón, the Mayor of Los Angeles, seeks to seize the people ‘s land to establish a gold mine, using deceit and manipulation. Diego ‘s childhood friend, Lupita Torres, courageously protests against Ramón ‘s plans, while Bernardo, Diego’s loyal servant, assists him in exposing the mayor’s treachery.

As Zorro, Diego fights for justice, rescuing Lupita from wrongful imprisonment and confronting Ramón and his equally greedy and immoral assistant, Rebecca Rodríguez. The narrative masterfully weaves together themes of justice and morality, as Zorro defends the oppressed and works to ensure that fairness prevails. The legend of Zorro endures as he continues to protect the people of Los Angeles, a powerful message for the young students in the audience.

More than just a play, the performance was a complete experience for the students. They not only enjoyed the thrilling adventures of the characters, but also had a unique opportunity to learn English in a dynamic setting. The emotional connection with the protagonists and the powerful message of the play’s values—fairness and honesty—left a lasting impression, proving that learning and entertainment can go hand in hand.
